Holy Week Experiences during the 5-day Long Weekend
Holy Week Experiences during the 5-day Long Weekend
I was relieved when we heard the news of getting a 5-day long weekend during the Holy Week season, which was the perfect time to rest; settle with our worries and make new memories; to have wonderful trips; and most of all, to gather together with our family members from different places regularly who come home to spend the Holy Week with us. The warm hugs and embraces were priceless, it brought joy and tighened the bond among us.
We spent most of our times togeter in our private rest house near the beach where we shared stories, ate in one table where all of us can seat together.
The solemnity of the vacation for me was first felt during the Palm Sunday when my mom and I went to attend the mass with our palms. Waving the palms along with other mass goers was a heartfelt experience. It renewed my connection with God. After the pandemic, this is my first time to attend Palm Sunday Mass. After the mass, we went to watch the Station General where devoutees paraded their patron saints in their beautifully adorned carriages.
During the Good Friday we went to watch the procession with the family.
Easter Sunday was fun. We started the day by attending the Holy Mass at the Basilica Menor Nicolas De Tolentino in Sinait. A family lunch at the resort followed and we attended an Easter and birthday party in the evening.
For me, Holy week is not only about visiting several churches, but rather to be with our beloved ones as what God would love to see. Our beloved Family is truly a treasure and God’s grace. It is a gift from Him. This is why we usually spend our time together during the Lenten Season.
